Teacher
Matt
As a kid growing up in Pennsylvania, Matt began playing bass at the age of 8. Once he discovered jazz guitar at the age of 13, there was no turning back. Matt won a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music to study guitar performance, and honed a technique that is a dazzling mix of Joe Pass, Lenny Breau, and his own originality. After graduating from Berklee, Matt moved to Los Angeles, where he works as a session guitar player, guitar instructor and composer.
Matt’s influences include Lenny Breau, Bill Evans, Tal Farlow, Kenny Barron, George Benson, Bill Frisell, and Jaco Pastorius. While Matt’s specialty is jazz, he is a terrific rock guitarist and bassist as well, and enjoys teaching all levels and styles — from complete beginners to highly-advanced students. Matt is equally with a pick or playing fingerstyle, and has a wry sense of humor.
