Johnathan
Johnathan Bekos is a pianist and music theorist who has nurtured a passion for teaching a holistic approach to the piano. By incorporating theory, history, and a broader sense of musical and rhythmic comprehension, Johnathan’s mission is to help his students see past just the notes on the page during the lesson. Having taught students of all ages and backgrounds, he fine-tunes all his lessons to account for the student’s individual strengths, weaknesses, and interests. Johnathan’s teaching philosophy is to inspire his students to always strive for excellence no matter where their musical journey takes them. Johnathan received degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music in both Piano Performance and Music Theory (B.M. ‘22, MM ‘23). Teaching throughout his studies in Cleveland, Johnathan has sent his students to prestigious music festivals such as the Interlochen Summer Music Camp.
Johnathan has also received awards from the Cleveland Institute of Music for excellence in music theory for his bachelor’s thesis on French-Baroque composer and theorist Jean-Philippe Rameau, and his extensive work as teaching assistant for the theory department. He has performed in countless recitals and benefit concerts in both the Chicagoland and Cleveland areas in both solo and ensemble settings.
Outside of teaching and playing piano, Johnathan loves to spend time with family and friends, travel, listen to music, go to concerts, cook, be in nature, exercise daily, and study the Greek and French languages. He composes & produces music for fun, blending his love of classical music with that of electronic and house genres.
